WHAT IS TPO ROOFING?

There are several different types of commercial roofing materials to choose from, but TPO, or thermoplastic polyolefin, is one of the fastest-growing roofing types on the market. It is a single-ply roofing system that has many added benefits such as flexibility, energy efficiency, and ease of installation. If you are a business owner needing to replace a commercial roof, here is what you should know about TPO Roofing.

Energy Efficient

Roofing material can play a big part in affecting the overall temperature of a building. Plywood under dark-colored roofing material can be up to 10 to 15 degrees higher than plywood under light-colored roofing. Higher temperatures mean your HVAC system has to work extra hard to keep the air cool in the b building. TPOs “cool roof” is designed to combat this temperature change, making it an energy-efficient option.

Long-Lasting

The lifespan of a TPO roof is long-lasting, and maintenance or repairs on a TPO roof are fairly simple and straightforward. Roofing problems such as leaks are rare, and most TPO roofing comes with up to a 20-year warranty, making it a desirable commercial roofing choice.

Variety

You may think there’s only one option when it comes to installing commercial roofing, but for TPO roofing, there is a variety to choose from. TPO roofing material comes in many color options. It is common to match or coordinate the roofing color with the outside look of the building to enhance curb appeal, and TPO roofing allows you to do this to create an aesthetically pleasing look all around.

Grease Resistant

Grease and grime can tend to build up over roofing structures over time. Too much grease on a roof can lead to wear and tear that may cause a roofing structure to degrade or need costly repairs. Tar and gravel roofs are especially known for needing repairs due to grease build-up. EPDM roofing will also swell and lose its seal because of layers of grease.

Grease gutters may work for these types of roofs. However, grease may still slip out onto the roof itself. But TPO roofs are designed to be grease resistant with built-in exhaust fans that dispel the grease over and off the roof. They are, for the majority, unaffected by grease and a great option for commercial spaces.
